About the Event

We have been given a community entry for up to 50 people to cycle in Manchester Pride parade on Saturday 27th August we'd love to celebrate with as  many of you as we can.

We'd love as many cyclists to come along but walkers will be more than welcome, and there'll be flags and banners, and some sweets to promote PRiDE OUT and t-shirts for those walking in the parade.

Wrist bands will be issued to walk in the parade from Manchester Pride. No wrist band: No parade entry. Please dont just turn up on the day without signing up. The wrist bands are just for the parade and give no access to the village party.

IMPORTANT: Pace and finish time  is likely to be super slow, the route is approximately 2miles and should finish around 1:30pm near the village. The route can be downloaded here; https://cycle.travel/map/journey/349374

Where/when

I suggest we all meet at St. John’s Garden, Lower Byron Street, beside the MOSI at 10:45. The what three words location is https://w3w.co/boxing.during.debate and this gives a little time for any stragglers to come along

We can then head over to castlefield bowl together for 11am for the health and safety briefing and all the other compulsory gumpf.

Bike/walk

Ride your bike, push your bike or just walk in the parade it’s entirely your choice.

We have 4 big lightweight flags if some of you would like to wave these and we have loads of vegan sweets to dish out along the way to the cheering masses!

if you are riding a bike Manchester pride have said you MUST wear a helmet

We highly recommend you carry out an 'M Check' before coming on the event to ensure you and your bike will be safe - watch this 4 minute video to see how to do this.

T-shirts/Dress code

We have had some PrideOut T-shirts printed and they look amazing. These are available for £20. This is literally as low as we can go to break even. If you want one to wear on the day please let me know.  We have small, medium, large, extra large.

Let me know the size you want and I’ll bring it with me. As much as I love you all I don’t want to bring/carry loads of excess shirts.

You can pay by card on the day or cash and please Let us know if you have a concessionary PrideOut membership too.

Don’t worry if you don’t want a T-shirt. They’re not compulsory. wear your PrideOut kit, wear your own cycling kit, wear whatever makes you feel comfortable or fits in with this years pride theme, peace. Just make sure it is within the rules of Manchester pride dress code**

Weather & food/drink

Currently it’s predicted to be partly cloudy/sunny. This is going to be a long morning so please remember to bring sunscreen/hat and some fluids to stay hydrated and a snack of two if you get hangry like Bex!

Manchester pride have stipulated they will have a zero tolerance on alcohol in the parade. So don’t risk it.

After the parade

The parade ends on Fairfield street (near the Bulls Head pub). The plan is to cycle to the MRI social club on nelson street for a drink together.

The social club have said we can leave bikes there overnight if we want and you can collect these the next day to suit you but Please bring a lock if you want to leave your bike. Usual caveats apply: no one but you is responsible for your own bike.

If you want someone/friends to meet you at the social club get them to come along too. Stay as long as you want or head off whenever suits you the choice is yours.

* *Manchester Pride’s Parade Costume Regulations

The Parade attracts tens of thousands of visitors who all come out to show support for the LGBT+ Community. Many of these visitors are families including small children. As such, we require that any costumes are appropriate for all age groups and as the Parade takes place on the streets of Manchester which is a public area. With this in mind, there must be no lurid or obscene outfits or actions.

Any costume, float or actions that Manchester Pride deem inappropriate will result in the participant being removed from the Parade immediately.

First event?

We know it can be nerve-racking joining a new group or event where you haven’t met anyone before… even for the most confident of people. We’ve all been in the same boat before, so we want to make everyone feel welcome. If you’d appreciate chatting someone before the event or having a buddy to meet you prior to going to the start point, please let us know by sending an email to hello@prideout.co.uk with the subject line ‘request a buddy’.

Who's welcome to attend the bike ride?

In a nutshell, everyone, as long as they are respectful of other attendees. PRiDE OUT is an LGBTQIA+ cycling group for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, intersex and asexual/ace people. We welcome allies with open arms.

What equipment do I need?

Wear whatever makes you feel most comfortable; Lycra is optional. Please wear/bring waterproof, warm clothes which are suitable for the weather forecast and time of year. You will be exercising so lightweight layered clothing is best. Please have footwear that is appropriate for your bike. We recommend you wear a helmet for your own safety, but it's not compulsory.

COVID-19 & Monkeypox

We consider Health and Safety to be important for all Participants. Any participant who has symptoms or tests positive for either Covid-19 or Monkeypox must not attend.

Any finally…  Have fun on the event. We promise to make you feel welcome and we’re sure you will have lots of opportunities to meet amazing people. Please try to avoid cancelling at the last minute - it could deny someone else the opportunity to attend the bike ride.

If you have any queries or need assistance, please email hello@prideout.co.uk and we will put you in touch with the event leader. We look forward to meeting you on the ride!
